First proposal

                                                                               PROPOSAL
Topic:
Violence in cartoon has an effect on children of both genders/ sometimes a different effect
Justification:
The reason why I chose this topic is because we see so many different cartoons on television and most of them have a villain and a hero and that hero almost always results to violence in order to beat the villain. Children all over the world watch and interpret these cartoons differently based on their age and gender. Children all over the world are in average 3 hours of television a day and they use selective exposure according to what they prefer to watch.
General questions:
-Do boys react to violence more than girls?
-Do girls react to violence as strongly as the boys do?
-what can parents do to prevent the children from being influenced by the violence and act aggressively?
-Does mediation help reduce aggressiveness?
-Does age and level of maturity affect interpretation of violence?
-what kind of reactions do children have to violent cartoons that contain comedic elements?

Short literature review:
-          Boys have preference for strong war toys
-          Girls like baby dolls
-          Boys have stronger interest in violence programs and adventure
-          Girls have preference for more romantic shows
-          Children may feel willing or sometimes eager to experience violence through media
-          As they grow older boys and girls lose interest in romance
-          Male chose violence twice as frequently as girls do
-          Children’s fictional involvement with the characters or victims on cartoons had significant impact on interpretations
-          Girls who watch violence didn’t change their level of aggressiveness after watching
-          Boys shows a immediate increase in violence after watching violent shows
-          Mediation strategy has a significant impact on children’s evaluation and interpretation of cartoons
-          Girls watching other female characters on cartoons are influenced by their behavior.
-          Some cartoons contain comedic elements that cameflouge the seriousness of the violence
-          Studies showed that cartoon with comedic element are more violent than those without comedic elements
-          The realness of the violent acts in the cartoon and the level of comedic elements indicate how down or up played the viewer should see it.
-          Younger and older children differ in interpretation on different  variables depending an maturity and level of development
-          Older kids have better understanding of violence as opposed to younger ones

Hypothesis:
The type of cartoons children watch has a significant impact on their behavior and interpretation of interaction and resolving problems.

Methods:
Participants, survey, interview, post experimental interview, and evaluation
